Fayum Portrait III
This work has been adapted from a Fayum mummy portrait. Fayum portraits are an ancient tradition of naturalistic, painted wooded panels, often representing the upper class mummies from Roman Egypt. This beautiful young woman is adorned with an elegant headpiece, pearl earrings and a jewelled necklace, as befitting her status Scholars write that ancient Egyptians believed these portraits were necessary to help the gods identify them in the afterlife. The cloinsonne enamel technique delivers a lustrously permanent image in glass and copper. A fitting medium to pay respect to these beautiful women of antiquity
