About The Artist

Gabryel Harrison

‘Meditating on ordinary, simple elements of nature; land, light and flowers, I can say that for me, as spoken before by other painters, painting is another form of praying. Painting is my practice of being fully present, intentional and alive to life.’

Passionata

International Art Centre, nestled in the heart of Parnell has exhibited, auctioned and sold art since 1971. The gallery is currently preparing for 'Passionata,' a major solo exhibition by Vancouver based painter and poet Gabryel Harrison. Since completing a Fine Arts degree at the University of Ottawa in 1980 Harrison's creative journey has been an interesting one spanning two hemispheres.

Gallery Director, Frances Davies introduced Harrison to the New Zealand market in 2011, describing both the artist and her work 'as something special' and the scale, scope and quality of Harrison's painting as 'life-enhancing'. A practicing Buddist, Harrison believes it is the responsibility of the artist to awake awareness. Her paintings invite the viewer to slow down and perceive art as an object of contemplation or evidence of wonder. Passionata showcases Harrison's unique landscapes and florals from the 15th - 31st May.
