Simon Williams Exhibition - New Zealand
Travelling the length of and breath of his homeland, Simon Williams rediscovers and explores anew, internationally famed destinations as well as ‘off-the-beaten-track’ slices of heaven on earth. Capturing the Kiwi heart-of-our land, Williams stands at the top of the pyramid of contemporary landscape painters.
Simon Williams grew up in Mosgiel where he completed an apprenticeship in horticulture and landscape gardening. During the 1980s Simon lived and worked in Britain and it was there that he began painting. By 1989 he was working in Sydney as a professional artist, greatly influenced by the early Australian impressionist painters of the Heidelberg School. His work sold well and he won prizes and commendations at Art Society and Municipal Art shows including a first at Ryde and Parramatta Art award.
Living in Auckland since 1994, Simon Williams has long been acknowledged as one of New Zealand's leading landscape painters. His works are commissioned and enjoyed by a worldwide clientele and hang in numerous homes and collections, including that of former President Bill Clinton following his visit to the gallery in 2002. Simon Williams does indeed succeed in capturing 'a slice of heaven,' with impressionistic brushstrokes and his mastery of colour. Major solo exhibitions of his works are held bi-annually.
