John Holmwood was an Auckland-born painter known for his atmospheric landscapes of New Zealand’s coast and countryside. Educated at the Elam School of Fine Arts, he developed a restrained, observational style defined by careful composition and tonal harmony. Following World War II, he travelled in the Pacific Islands, producing works distinguished by lighter palettes and tropical subjects.
