Lawrence Leitch travels to the remote northern end of Lake Wakitipu and Kinloch, home of the Wilderness Retreat and Kinloch Lodge.The artist succeeds in capturing the stillness of the scene with its early morning mist, crystal clear waters and old jetty - all against the backdrop of the Richardson Range. The jetty was once the departure point for jet boats heading up the dart river. Before the road from Queenstown to Glenorchy was completed in the 1970s, tourists would travel to the head of the lake by steamship and stay at Kinloch Lodge.
