Artist Biography

Franco Anselmi

(1955 - 2025, Veneto, Italy)

The young Anselmi attended Urbino University graduating in languages and sociology, and for some years taught mathematics. He had painted since the age of 16 and this passion lasted a life time, eventually becoming his full time profession. Works by the Italian Futurist painters of the 20th Century glorifying themes of speed and technology were an early influence but from early on the paintings of Anselmi, full of Venetian colour and humour were very much his own.

Favoured subjects included glamorous women, often in trios or pairs, Byzantine style madonnas and trademark Anselmi animals. The nocturnal owl, wisest of birds, was the only creature portrayed with two eyes, indicative of a balanced view of the world. The Anselmi imagination knows no bounds and his contemporary frescoes and pyramids embodied the Venetian School's love and understanding of colour. These works remain a visual celebration of life.

Anselmi exhibited throughout Europe and in Hong Kong and Paris. International Art Centre held several Australasian solo exhibitions, two of which Anselmi was able to attend in person. Franco passed away in January 2025, forever missed. His legacy of talent and joy lives on in his artworks.
